Tata Motors unveiled the sports car RACEMO of its TAMO sub-brand at the 87th Geneva International Motor Show today. TAMO will work as an incubating center for new technologies and future mobility solutions. The TAMO RACEMO is designed at the Tata Motors’ Design Studio in Turin, Italy.
The two seater sports coupe accelerates from 0-60 mph in under 6 seconds. It will be powered by an 1.2L turbocharged Revotron engine churning out 190 horses of brake power. The mid-mounted engine is coupled with a 6-Speed Automated Manual Transmission. It has a ground clearance of 165 mm and uses an independent double wishbone suspension.
The TAMO RACEMO has elements of Tata’s design language IMPACT- the Humanity Line, Slingshot Line and Diamond DLO. Immediate IMPACT at first sight. Lasting IMPACT over time. The sportscar features a sporty front grille and bumper with aggressive headlights.
Two variants were launched at the Geneva International Motor Show – the street legal Racemo and the track-driven Racemo+.
Tata Motors CEO and managing director Guenter Butschek said,
We’re going beyond the borders of India, and here we’re presenting to the future of mobility. RACEMO is the first innovation from TAMO, and our emotional, unexpected leap to the future.
The RACEMO will be the first fully connected sports coupe developed by an Indian automaker. Tata’s partnership with Microsoft will see the sportscar equipped with advanced navigation, predictive maintenance, remote monitoring and over-the-air updates using cloud technologies.
The RACEMO has been built on the MOFlex Multi-Material Sandwich structure that gives freedom to automakers to build cars across all segments. The MOFlex MMS structure provides integrated crash protection and the car is equipped with two airbags for driver and passenger protection. According to Tata Motors, this is being used for the first time in the automotive industry for passenger vehicles.
RACEMO is the proving ground of the TAMO family of vehicles and will drive the future of India’s connected generation. From styling and design to driver experience and technology, RACEMO is an extension of customers’ personality, as part of their digital ecosystem and will break the ice with a radical new presence and pique the interest in the parent brand.
